Fall Color at Chatterton's Hill- Battle of White Planes

Monument at the base of Chatterton Hill. Shot with DC67 TRL Twin 35mm camera

Area at the base of Chatterton Hill with the monument in the center. The slope of the hill starts on the right side of the image. The town of White Planes is to the left and on the other side of the Bronx River. The English/ Hessian troops had to cross the river and then attack up the steep hill. Moving from left to right across this image. After a number of try's they were able to take the hill. Flanking the American possitions in and around White Planes. Causing General Washington and the American Army to retreat northward.

Trees on top of Chatterton's Hill

I took my DIY DC67 TRL Twin 35mm camera and the Holga 120mmm WPC out to White Planes, NY. Above are the results. The fall weather was fantastic. Full, low angle sun and pleasant temperatures. My trip that day was to Chatterton Hill. It was the main area of fighting during the Battle of White Planes on October 28, 1776. Today the battlefield is a typical suburban neighborhood. On the top of the hill there is a small play ground with some historical markers. I was hoping to get a view of White Planes and the route of the attacking English/Hessian troops, but there were to many trees and the view was blocked. Taking pictures of the wonderful fall leaves, I guessed that the trees were also changing color at the time of the battle.
